During the Christmas season our minds are filled with
many different areas of thought. Among these
I trust are the minutes we remember the reason
for this celebration. I know most of us are
thankful Christmas does not come everyday.
The shopping, planning, cooking, decorating can become
hectic. But! Would we not all be happier if each day of
the year carried the same Spirit of Love and giving as
Christmas? Perhaps the reason this feeling does not last
and seems to be discarded with the Christmas wrappings
are that more importance has been given to the preparation
than the reason for Christmas.
I think one of my joys during this season,
is the reflection in my minds eye of what Christmas
was for me as a child. My Mother believed this
was a time to display Love for one another
above all else. The time for speaking to one
another about the gift of life and the event
of Jesus' birth and what this means to each
of us.
One of my most memorable Christmas days was
at fourteen, I was giving much thought to what
I wanted most of all ( we were allowed one
major gift). I had seen this beautiful coat,
it was the most special thing in my desires.
I related this to my Mother, she replied "A
coat, we will see." Christmas morning,
I opened my gifts with excitement leaving the
large one for last. And then, as I opened and
discovered my coat, I was joyful. But the words
my Mother spoke brought the real joy. The Love
in her eyes as she told me, "A
special Coat for a special child, I will love
forever., The coat may not last. But my love
will." Every
time I wore the coat I remembered I was loved.
This year as you contemplate the meaning of
Christmas, remember the miracle of the love
that created our Christ and each of us ~ God
~ that is the Spirit of Christmas alive in
each of us. Remember what has given you the
greatest joy. More than likely, it has not
been the material things in your life, it probably
has not been the getting--or even the giving.
It has been the realization of the spirit of
divine love within you, the realization this
is the season to look deep in your heart and
soul for the Christ Spirit and to open yourself
up to Its powerful activity. Give the gift
of forgiveness, the gift of understanding,
and most of all the gift of Love.
Make this Christmas an inner experience, an
inner miracle, an inner rebirth. It is a miracle
that took place in Bethlehem over two thousand
years ago. It is a miracle we have the opportunity
to repeat again and again as we open our human
hearts to the Christ Spirit within them. And
in Prayer and Meditation find the light that
guides us, the substance which fulfills us
and the love forever blessing us.
Yes, Every day can be a day like Christmas
when we choose to think of others and give
them our love, our friendship, our time,
our substance. Every day can be the day when
we no longer search for miracles, but look
with our open eyes to the miracles all around
us; to the evidences of the living loving
Christ Spirit.
Unity Church of Sachse invites you to join
us for this special season, as we worship in
gratitude for the gift of the Christ and his
example we all seek to embrace in our lives
each day.
Have A Blessed
Season,
