THE
DOOR IS ALWAYS OPEN
I have come so that
they may have life and have it to the
full.
John 10:10 |
 |
We spend a goodly portion of our lives struggling
against ordinary and extraordinary risks. We do
everything possible to save our life in this sense
...
We build nest-eggs to secure ourselves against
the risk of poverty.
We follow fashions to secure ourselves against
the risk of embarrassment over our personal appearance.
We cling to certain persons to insure ourselves
against the risk of loneliness.
We keep others at arm's length to secure ourselves
against the risk of rejection.
We may even get regular medical checkups and
see our dentists twice a year.
We check our brakes and fasten our seat belts,
put our money in banks and double-lock our doors.
We take our vitamins and do our exercises. But,
try as we may, there is no evading the reality
that to be alive is to face risks.
Challenges will come to plague us, suffering
will come to burden us, and death ultimately will
overtake our bodies. Given the basic
insecurity of life, given the image of ourselves
as tiny specks in a vast unknown, subject to the
blips of fate over which we have no control, by
what power and authority do we assert our human
dignity?
By what power and authority do we dare to sustain
hope for our fulfillment as human persons?
By what power and authority do we dare to assert
our significance as human persons?
We truth students dare to assert our significance
by the power and authority of our Father,
our creator,
There is an ancient legend in which an announcement
is made to the angels in Heaven that God has almost
completed His work of creation. . .
All that remains to be done is to create a creature
who would be able to appreciate God's majesty
and praise Him for it. The angels are shown a
model of this creature, and the model clearly
indicates that the creature, to be called "human," would
be created in God's Image. The creature would
be equipped with intellect, understanding and
free will, says the Lord. Whereupon, the Angel
of Truth pleads with God, "Lord, I beg You
not to create these human beings. Such creatures
will be capable of lying and fraud and deception.
Your Universe has no need of such creatures."
Then the Angel of Peace approaches saying, "Lord,
I beg You not to create these human beings. Such
creatures would be capable of discord and division
in Your beautiful harmonious Universe. There is
no need for such creatures."
Then the Angel of Love addresses the Lord. "Dear
God, these humans created in Your Image would
be capable of performing great and noble works.
Filled with Your own spirit of love, they too
would be able to love. And in their caring for
one another and their sharing with one another,
they would glorify You, as no other creature could.
Your Universe has a need for such creatures, capable
of love."
God listens patiently to the Angel of Truth
and the Angel of Peace. But the voice of the Angel
of Love prevails.
Love God, Love others as God loves you, and you will no longer be
afraid on your life's journey, despite the risks.
Whatever the circumstance of our life, the desire
for a more abundant life just won't go away. And
the door is always open to us, Jesus through his
teaching assures us.
The hope we embrace that a richer, fuller life
is possible is part of what makes us human. And
the door is always open to us,
Deep within us is that ever-present desire to
make those changes that will lead us to something
better. And the door is always open to us,
We all want more than mere words about the true
meaning and purpose of life. We want the actual
experience of what life is all about. And the
door is always open to us,
What Jesus wanted us to understand about all
of this is that He is showing us the way to the
Good Life, .
"I am the Way, the Truth and the Life,"He
said to His disciples. And then He added, "I
tell you most solemnly, whoever believes in Me
will perform the same works as I do Myself, he
will perform even greater works, because I am
going to the Father" (John 14:6,12).
Many of us, perhaps most of us, have had the
experience of riding on a merry-go-round. Carousels
are still featured attractions on most carnival
midways and seaside boardwalks ...
You climb aboard a painted wooden horse and
off you go! There is much rattling and vibration
and jarring music. And, of course, there is the
sense of movement, 'round and 'round.
Finally, the ride comes to a stop, and you find
that you have arrived more or less at the same
place you started from. In spite of all the dizzying
movement, you have not advanced as much as an
inch.
For many of us, life is like a merry-go-round.
We expend energy, make lots of noise and imagine
we're getting somewhere, only to realize that
we've just been going around in circles.
"Follow Me on your life's journey,"Jesus
exhorts us. Get off that merry-go-round! Stop
going around in circles!
"You are God's chosen race, His saints;
He loves you,"Paul
tells us. "And you should be clothed in sincere compassion, in
kindness and humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with one another;
forgive each other as soon as a quarrel begins. The Lord has forgiven
you; now you must do the same. Over all these clothes, to keep them
together and complete them, put on love. And may the peace of Christ
reign in your hearts, because it is for this that you were called
together as parts of one body. Always be thankful" (Colossians
3:12-15).
You are God's chosen race, His saints. He loves
you. Wherever you are in your life's journey,
at this very moment the Light of Christ Consciousness is
shining at the center of your being.
Drop your defenses! Relinquish all your excuses,
and let the light shine through. Let it permeate
your life! Let the healing come into every part
of your being and you will begin to come
alive to the gift of new life that God gives to
each one of us.
Blessings,
